The second face-to-face match between “Le Cannet” and “Prometey” at the group stage of the Champions League took place in France, where each team had its own plans for it. For example, the hosts sought revenge for the previous defeat (2-3), and the "red and whites", on the contrary, set out to repeat their success in order to increase their chances for the playoffs of the competition.
Already from the first minutes of the confrontation, it was noticeable that the team of Serbian coach Milan Hršića drew conclusions after that failure. For their part, our volleyball players made a lot of mistakes in the attack, which led to the starting margin of the French team - 7:2. Thanks to coordinated actions on the block, we managed to reduce the gap, but not for long - 12:7.
"Prometey" was noticeably missing one of its leaders, Vicky Savar. The Canadian player missed a number of recent matches due to objective reasons. In general, the athlete is useful for the team not only in the attack but also in the reception, which today periodically failed. In particular, after the ace of Vita Akimova, the advantage of "Le Cannet" became double - 18:9. It was almost impossible to save the set with such a score - 25:15.
In the next set, the "red and whites" looked more competitive. Daria Velykokon started to give more passes for the head, alternately connecting Svitlana Dorsman and Mirta Grbac to the attacks, which were effective - 7:8. The hosts improved their game on the block and, it would seem, regained the initiative — 10:8. But Ivan Petkov's team responded with a similar spurt. The "swings" in the meeting continued further — 18:19, 22:21. In the end, fortune smiled on the representatives of France - 25:22.
Everyone probably remembered the scenario of the first face-to-face confrontation between the clubs, when the Ukrainian team made a comeback, trailing 0-2 in sets. And in the third segment, they again began to implement it - 11:14. However, after two time-outs by Milan Hršića, the opponents were the first to serve, so they soon equalized parity. At that moment, it was psychologically difficult for "Prometey" to lead, which "Le-Cannet" took full advantage of - 25:22.
In the parallel match of Group B, the Italian "Vero Volley" defeated the Romanian team "Alba Blaj" without any problems at their home court - 3-0 (25:16, 25:18, 25:16).
